Rotation Sites

With a variety of training locations, residents are given the opportunity to learn surgery in varying training environments ranging from academic to community.  This hybrid type of training allows residents to find a style unique to them in order to provide the best possible care for their patients.

St. james, olympia fields

As one of our core rotation sites, St. James Olympia Fields is now the home to all of our operative cases and patients.  Outside of general surgery, residents will also have dedicated Cardiothoracic Surgery rotations at this location.  Olympia Fields is additionally home to most of the other training programs including Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Radiology, Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, and Emergency Medicine.

The St. James Chicago Heights campus was the main hub for the program until it closed permanently in 2018.  All surgical cases have transitioned over to the Olympia Fields location.

Presence resurrection medical center

Located on the North side of Chicago near O’Hare Airport, Presence Resurrection provides residents the opportunity to work with a different patient population.  Attendings covered at this facility include those trained in General Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, and Breast Surgery.

John H Stroger, Cook County Hospital

For Trauma and Burn Surgery, residents visit John H Stroger Cook County Hospital during their 2nd and 4th years of training.  Residents work among a team of residents and faculty from multiple Chicago residency programs at this iconic Chicago hospital.

Lurie Childrens Hospital

For Pediatric Surgery, residents visit Lurie Childrens Hospital in downtown Chicago.  Our residents rotate through along with residents from Northwestern hospital for 2 months during their 3rd year of residency.

Little Company of Mary

As the newest addition to our rotation sites, residents spend time during their fourth and final year of training working at Little Company of Mary Hospital where the source of training is almost exclusively operative.  Little Company of Mary is located in a separate community providing yet another variety of operations and faculty to work with.

Advocate Christ Hospital

As a third year resident we spend a month at Christ Hospital for our transplant rotation that focuses on renal transplant. We also have the opportunity to participate in heart and lung transplants when they are available. Fourth year residents will spend a dedicated month for vascular surgery at Christ Hospital.
